Ana Filipović is an architect, spatial designer, and independent researcher based in Berlin. Her work focuses on the spatial manifestations of power structures in society, particularly in the domain of collective housing.
Ana holds a diploma degree in architecture and urban planning from Belgrade University and a master’s degree in Architecture and Critical Spatial Practice from Städelschule in Frankfurt, which was supported by a two-year DAAD scholarship. As a fellow of Academy Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart in 2018, she examined for-profit housing production of the last decade in Berlin.
Since 2014 Ana is one half of IF/THEN collaboration with Philipp Mecke. IF/THEN is a research-based design practice that explores contemporary conditions of space making through various mediums and scales. With a background in architecture, critical spatial practice, and computing, IF/THEN examines the spaces, materialities, and textures of the dominant forces at work, and creates the counter ones.
Ana is a registered freelance architect in Berlin. She was associated with several architectural practices in Belgrade, Frankfurt, Brooklyn, and Berlin. Since 2019 she is a freelance collaborator of Substance&Inhalt, a design practice operating on the nexus between fashion and spatial design. Ana is a part of s.o.f.t-agency, a diasporic group of female architects, artists, curators, scholars and writers working with spatial practices.
